Negatively Impacting Your Children by Jennifer Maggio

Oh, the sweet innocence of a newborn! There is nothing quite so special as holding a cuddly, soft newborn as they gaze up at you with wonder and amazement - their eyes so wide, their futures so bright. When is it, along the way, that we forget that innocence of the children that God has entrusted us with?

”Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.” Proverbs 22:6

I have clung to that Scripture many, many times when I was certain that I was a total failure as a mother. I have prayed that very verse repeatedly when my teenagers were furious with my parenting decisions. And in my years of parenting and counseling those who are also on the journey, there are many things I have learned through trial and error (and am still learning). But this simple fact I know is true.

As parents, we have the unique privilege and responsibility of shaping our children’s character.
The following are just a few of the areas for which we must be very cautious:

- Music, Internet, and Television — Do you have boundaries set up for your children in regards to media? Is there a time limit? Are there parameters about what they can and cannot view? Let me take it a step further. Do they see you viewing the very programs they are forbidden to watch? If so, what message are you sending? (In a few years, when you are older, it is okay for you to fill your mind with violence, sex, drugs, and profane language.)

- Honesty. What a simple concept! But consider this. When you find a $20 bill in the parking lot, do you readily turn it back in to management, even though it could really come in handy given your current financial situation? Do you ask your child to lie when answering the phone in saying, “She’s not available, right now.” However minor these infractions may seem, you are teaching your child that it is okay to be dishonest in certain instances.

- Prejudices – Whether we are talking about racisim, sexism, or economic status, we absolutely want our children to be free of such prejudices. Be careful not to categorize others based on the references above, but rather the content of an individual’s character.

Commit to raising children with the highest level of integrity and character that is beyond reproach. What a joy it will be to one day look at them as the fine, upstanding young men and women we had always hoped they would be. It starts now.

Adjust Your Vision as a Single Mom by Latrice Morgan

Scripture to meditate on : Ephesians 5:15-17

It is doubtful that there could ever be a better time to serve Jesus than this "moment" of singleness. Rather than wasting precious moments fantasizing about an earthly lover, take advantage of your free hours each day to serve the Lord of Heaven. If you are frustrated and distracted, rather than fruitfully serving Jesus, then ask Him right now to adjust your vision.

Don't worry about that certain guy you have had your eye on for awhile. If he is God's best for you, he will be there when you return....

Is there an opportunity of service that you have avoided because you can’t give up looking for your knight in shining armor? As you get older, you assume more obligations and responsibilities that demand your time and attention (especially with children). Such distractions will make serving Jesus even more difficult. Have you given Jesus full reign over your time?

Limitless ministry opportunities exist for the Lady of Diligence. These ministries are available right this moment. They do not demand a Bible college education. The only requirement is a single woman who desires to use her time wisely.

Look for opportunities to serve your Heavenly Father. Serving others removes the focus from ourselves and our needs. It gives us value as we gives others value. Focus on what is important today.

Creating Vision For Your Kids

Psalm 139:16(NLT) You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.

Do you create a VISION in your child’s life? You know that you want your child to grow up to be a good citizen and not go through the things that you went through, but do you ever really think about giving your child a VISION – a sense of greatness for his life?

When I read this passage in Psalms, I got excited! God really does notice me! He loves me! He has plans for me! He’s ordered every step I take! But then I realized that I was feeling more than a little convicted about my excitement. I felt like God was saying to me, “But do you create this sense of vision, of greatness in your children?” How many times have I gotten mad and screamed and spanked and grounded and held a grudge? Let’s face it. Raising children is hard work and we don’t always do it right, especially with the first one.

My 16 year old carries the scars of me "cutting my teeth" on him and failing to give him a sense of greatness in his life. I never told him he was stupid. I never told him he was a loser or going to fail. I told him he was smart and good looking. But how did I forget to tell him how amazing God had made him? Why did I never tell him that even though it may not seem that way right now, God had made him perfect and gifted – that God had made him the head and not the tail, that if God was for him (and God WAS for him) that nothing, but NOTHING could ever prosper against him? How did I forget the most important lesson that we could ever teach our kids – that God’s word had PROMISED that if we walked in his ways, His divine plan was to prosper us and protect us and bring our wildest dreams to realization?

It’s important that we create a sense of excitement about God and His word in our children’s lives. If you want your children to be excited about God, then begin to speak His word in excitement over them. Tell them how GREAT God has made them. Plant a seed of vision in their life. Let them grow up knowing that God loves them most of all and will never fail them! Discipline is necessary, but why not follow that up with, “Johnny, you know that mom is not happy about the fight you got into at school. You know that you will be grounded for 3 weeks. But, listen, I have some good news. Forget all that stuff that bully said about you being little. Did you know that God said that if He is for you then who can be against you? It doesn’t matter if you’re little. God has a HUGE plan for your life. Have I ever told you the story of David and Goliath…”

God is Near the Broken-Hearted by Ashley Elisar

People often say, "Be content in the season you are in." What if your season is broken? A broken heart is so heavy. It makes life ache and makes existing feel burdensome. How can one be content in THAT?!

Your contentment can be found in knowing that God is close to the broken-hearted. It is a special time between you and the Lord, where you learn more of Him. His heart longs for your restoration just as much as you long for the hurt to stop. The Bible is filled with Scriptures on how precious and gracious our God is to a broken heart.

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. Psalm 51:17

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalms 31:18

He heals the brokenheartedand binds up their wounds.Psalms 147:3

Find contentment in these promises. God cares. When the world tells you to "get over it," or implies you did this to yourself, or when people are simply bothered by your brokenness, GOD says, " I CARE." He is with you. He is near you. He cannot despise you. He will heal you. He will save you. If you have ever cried out to God in emotional agony, you can probably testify to the warm peace that has washed over you and simply made you calm in the storm.

Several of my most intimate moments with my Savior are from my time of emotional wreckage. Be content in knowing God can handle your brokenness. Be content in knowing you are in the midst of God moving mountains and working miricales to make beauty from ashes. Be content in knowing god is near and cling to His promises as you travel down the road of restoration.

Misplaced Trust by Angela Lathers

Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with your whole heart and lean not to your understanding and in all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your path.”

Many people put their trust in stocks, bonds, and other financial instructions which all have let them down at some point and the returns are not guaranteed. This is the same as when we put our trust in others to make right what’s wrong in our lives or to solve our problems. Then... there are those of us who say “You can’t trust anybody. If you want it done right, you have to do it yourself.” These are the words of disappointment and hurt. God is our source. Yet, ninety-nine percent of the time He is our choice of last resort. God’s return is greater than any investment you can every make.

Embrace today as a new season -a new beginning - in your life. Let’s start it with a new look at life with a positive attitude knowing that our Heavenly Father is our source not our resource. Let’s trust Him in every aspect of our lives because, He knows the plans He has for us. Let's make a conscious effort today to lean in to what He is telling us through prayer and Bible time. Instead of taking out our favorite novel today, let’s pick up our book of instructions - THE BIBLE - to build our trust in God. The Bible not only tells us where to deposit our trust, but it also guarantees our investments will be returned!

There is nobody greater than our God. Trust him with your future and the future of your kids.

“He has it all planed out to take care of you, He will never abandon you, He wants to give you the future you hope for.” Jeremiah 13:11.

Now that’s a portfolio that Wall Street will never be able to match. Let’s go find our misplaced trust and place in our Heavenly Father!

As a single mom, it is easy to get anxious about finding a husband and especially a father to our children. I know that for myself one reason I am a single mom is that I was too anxious about getting married. I am still suffering from my mistake of not waiting on my Heavenly Father to send me the husband He has made especially for me. What’s most painful is that my children are also suffering for my mistakes. I never again want to make a choice that could end up hurting my children. It’s easy as a single mom facing financial stress, and the emotional stress of parenting children alone to take things into our own hands and find “someone” who will temporarily take care of us.

When we don’t allow God to take care of us, we can very easily get swept up in a wrong relationship and compromise our beliefs and believe the enemy when he tells us there is no one else who will treat and respect us any better. We limit God’s power! We forget, we are the precious daughters of the Most High, more valuable than diamonds, His perfect creation! We are the royalty worthy of only the finest of God’s creation! Let me tell you, no one will love you like Jesus!

As you are waiting for God to prepare your spouse for you and your children, know He is also preparing you! We get so anxious for God to bring that perfect person into our lives, we forget that the only perfect one we are waiting on is Jesus and He wants to do a work in us too! Never doubt that God is jealous for you and wants this time alone with you to do something far more incredible than your mind can ever comprehend! He wants to be intimate with you. He wants your whole heart. He wants you to be dependent upon Him alone and completely surrendered! I challenge you to allow Jesus to be your husband, your children’s father, your provider and the love of your life! Allow Him to show you just how valuable and precious you are! The only one who will never let you down! I’m not saying it is wrong for you to desire a husband, in fact, God places those desires in us and we can trust that he will fulfill anything He has placed within us, but in His perfect timing! Allow yourself time to get caught up in God’s love, because nothing will ever compare! Hopefully, then you will realize just how beautiful you really are! Royalty! Be still and know He is God!

"Forgiveness Is...." by Lizzie James

“…Forgive us as we forgive those who trespass against us…” Forgiving others, I believe, is one of the hardest things we have to do in life. I was challenged today that if someone were to judge me by some of the worst comments that have come out of my mouth or even worse, to be judged by some of the worst things that I have done, I would be considered to be a really terrible person.

When we bottle pain up, we tend to implode. I am notorious for this. I will let hurtful things go on, and on..........and on, until I cannot take it anymore. I then begin the countdown to self-destruction and in turn, end up hurting others around me from the debris that follows the explosion.

I was once asked by someone, “How do you not hold resentment towards someone who has hurt your child?” it took me a moment to respond but I knew that the Holy Spirit wanted not only this person but, me as well, to know, “God loves us just as much as He loves the person who hurt your child. The enemy is the one who created sin from the beginning, not that person. The person may have been a vessel to harm but the enemy wants us to hold onto unforgiveness towards that person so that we will continue to destroy. Christ is freedom.” As a mom, the last thing I would ever want to happen is for someone to hurt my child. How much more would our God want us to avoid living in pain? Truth is… enormously more! That is why he sent His Son Jesus, so that we can live in freedom from sin and pain. We still must heal, but Christ carries us through it.

What I appreciate about Jesus is that He loves me despite my imperfections. I appreciate that when I say something or do something that is not nice, He notices that the person deep down inside of me is only a hurting child in pain. Not malicious. Not evil. Not a reject.

It is easy to realize the pain in our own life. However, what Jesus wants us to do is look out from beneath our pain and notice that people who have hurt us are just aching children in pain also. Christ didn’t even think twice about dying for the pain we inflicted on Him. We killed Him and He STILL forgave us! Can you do the same and forgive someone else for their pain that was inflicted on you?

Forgive the person that you need to in your heart, apologize if need be, and pray. Pray continuously (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

WORTHY to be LOVED

I have always compared myself to my sister who didn't make any of the bad choices and mistakes that I did. I believed the lies of the enemy and myself that I was not worthy to be loved by my parents, God or anyone else. I did not even love myself. It was not like I made a bad choice once. Oh no! I kept on making one after the other. Then one night I had a dream. I heard a very clear voice tell me, " Sandra, you are not unloved because of the mistakes you have made. Because you were unloved, you made those mistakes.

You were created to be loved. God sees our wrong actions on the outside, but He also sees our empty hurting hearts on the inside. There is nothing that you have ever done that God will not forgive. Think about it. Is there anything your child could do that would make you not love them? Or change your love for them? Of course not. That is exactly how your Heavenly Father feels about you too. You are His daughter.
He knows your desire to be wanted and loved.
Only He can give you the kind of love you need. Surrender your heart to Him and receive His amazing unconditional and unfailing love.

Listen to what God says about you and not what others or even you say about yourself.. Be careful whose words you listen to.

There are few holidays that are more difficult for a single mother than Father's Day. For this day highlights great lack in most single mother's lives. The endless questions begin to flow.

"Why don't my children have the loving father they deserve?"

"Why do I have to do everything and he does nothing?"

"Why must I struggle financially, because he chooses to pay no child support?"

Father's Day could easily points out all the things you do not have, that your child does not have. It is easy to dwell on the failed marriage or relationship, on everything that could've and should've been, but now isn't. But may I offer a different perspective?

Many of you face tough questions from your children on this day about why their father isn't around more.

Rather than focusing on what you lack (or your children), focus on what the day represents -- an awesome father! Maybe you have never had an awesome earthly father. Maybe you are frustrated because your children lack that, as well. Well, I've got good news for you. You have an awesome Heavenly Father....and so do your children! Teach them that. Our Heavenly Father loves us. The Bible says he will NEVER fail us. His plans for us are to prosper us and to set us on higher ground. He watches over us. He nurtures us and shows us mercy and grace. He protects us and disciplines us. Isn't that what a good father does?

Ladies, I cannot explain why you have walked through the hardships you have. But....I do know that God's timing is perfect. I do know that his ways are mysterious, yet wise. I do know that he gives strength when we are weak. Today, you may find yourself weak, but I want you to know his loves never fails and one day, in his perfect timing, your children will be restored. They will have a loving father and you, a loving husband. Until that day comes, focus on the abundance in your life -- the healthy children, the job God has afforded you to provide for your family, the transportation you drive, the friends who love you, etc.

Psalm 23:6 "Surely, your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life and I will live in the house of the Lord forever."

How many of us need more time? More time to study, more time with our friends and family, time to play Wii or Xbox, time to read a good book, time to tan by the pool, time to play sports- or as mothers of teens- time to do laundry, time to clean, time to be the chauffeur again, time to get your hair done, time to cook dinner, time to pick up another child from a friend's house, and finally......... time to sit down and catch a breath and think for a second of all the other things you need more time for!

A thought came to me in the midst of my complaining that I never have time (I want to work out more and can’t seem to find the time). The thought was, how is God supposed to do abundantly above anything I could ever imagine in my life if I am not spending time with Him? More than our family, more than our friends, more than the gym, more than the cell phones, computers, Xbox, television, and any other distraction that comes our way- both good and bad- God wants you to spend time with Him -each and every day.

While this may not seem like a revolutionary thought, put this into practice in your life and you will see a revolution start. When you and I decide to put God first, spend time with Him, share our hearts with Him, and become totally vulnerable to Him- amazing things start to happen. That one bill that you had no clue how you were going to pay somehow is paid. The child that struggles and fights with you on everything, suddenly has a change of heart and wants to help you however he/she can. That health problem that has been causing you pain or has left you awake many nights, suddenly is no longer there.

What if you have never known God before or if you do not know where to start? Start with what you already know- a friendship. God wants a relationship with you. He wants to be your best friend. He wants to know the things that cause you pain, the things that make you happy. He wants to hold you when you cry and celebrate with you when amazing things happen. God wants you to choose to not watch The Real Housewives, to not call your girlfriend and gossip about whatever, to not do everything else in the day and then give Him the last few minutes of you before you go to sleep (I know at that point I am worthless and probably very grumpy- and have found myself doing this before!). If He wants the first of your earnings, then why wouldn’t He also want the first of your day?! I encourage you to wake up in the morning and give God thanks and praise for giving you another day. Find things to be thankful for and spend time with Him in His word, talking to Him about your dreams and desires of your heart, and see the things that start to take shape in your life as a result.

Recently, the whole world was captivated by the Royal Wedding. Personally, all I cared about was Kate’s dress. And, whoa, wasn’t it so glamorous? The whole event was quite lovely. While I was excited to see the wedding play out, I was feeling my share of jealousy and self-pity.

“I’ll never be THAT glamorous!”

“Why hasn’t my Prince arrived?”

“I want a Fairy Tale, too!”

But, through my sulking, I realized something. The Bible teaches us that when we are saved, God adopts us as His own children (John 1:12-13) and makes us co-heirs with Christ (Romans 8:17). And if God is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, what does that make us? PRINCESSES!! And not just earthly princesses, we are princesses of the eternal Kingdom of Heaven! And while we will probably not wear priceless jewels on our heads and people will probably not wake up at 5 am to watch our weddings broadcast globally, we are still the most important person to our King. In fact, here is what He says about YOU:

"But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions- it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus." (Ephesians 2: 4-6)

Soak that in. Because He loves YOU, He extends His rich mercies and grace to you, gives you life and seats you next to Jesus in the Kingdom of Heaven.

I don’t know about you, but I would rather store up riches in Heaven than have all the jewels on Earth. And it doesn’t take a genius to see that not all earthly princesses end up with their ‘Happily Ever After’.

So as you go about your seemingly un-glamorous life, remember the truth about you. Your value is not defined by what anyone thinks or says about you. It is not defined by your circumstances or how people treat you. Your identity lies in Christ Jesus. He loves you. He died for you. You are His princess.

Numbers 14:17-19 (Amplified Bible) And now, I pray you let the power of my Lord be great, as You have promised, saying, "The Lord is long-suffering and slow to anger, and abundant in mercy and loving-kindness, forgiving iniquity and transgression; but He will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, upon the third and fourth generation. Pardon, I pray You, the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of Your mercy and loving-kindness, just as You have forgiven [them] from Egypt until now."

Parenting children can be hard. As we begin to think about parenting children, we must consider the choices we make and how they will affect our children. As single mothers, we have a choice to trust the Lord in all our ways or we can complain and become victims of our circumstance. This choice of a self-defeated life is simply a rebellion against God's will and plan for redemption. We cannot change our past, but we can look ahead and change our present and future circumstances. How do we do this? We seek God continuously through prayer and apply his word in our daily decision making.

Numbers 14:17-19 portrays God's love for us -- despite the fact that we may sin or rebel against him. Isn't that how we all should parent our children? We love them, no matter what they do. He does not excuse the guilt, and the consequences of our sins can affect our children later in life. The good news is that our God is still a forgiving God and forgives our sins no matter how many times we fall. Salvation through Jesus Christ frees us from generational sin so that we may have victory in HIS name. He wants us to look within, learn from our past, and make wiser choices for our future.

And for many years, I could never share that story -- the one of abuse, homelessness, and multiple teen pregnancies -- as I was inundated with shame, fear, and embarassment. The Unchurched Single Mom by Jennifer Maggio

For years, churches have avoided working with single moms, partly due to the absence of single moms in the church, and partly due to the lack of knowledge of exactly how to go about doing so. In recent years, we have seen more churches gain understanding of the necessity to reach this sect of our population. However, what we continue to see is that most single moms that are active in a single moms support group at a local church are, in fact, CHURCHED single moms. This means that these single moms were already active in the local church, understand the importance of being there, and have a relationship with Christ. What about the UNCHURCHED single mom? How do we bring her Christ, when she doesn't even believe there is a God? What about the single mom who fell away from church years ago, because she was hurt? What about the single mom who fears she wouldn't belong in church? This is by far the most unreached people group in the United States. Churches are not sure exactly how to find and minister to her. Having the honor to work with one of the largest churches in the country and minister to the single moms there, here is what we have found:

Teach relevant material. We recommend Overwhelmed: The Life of a Single Mom. Unchurched single moms are not prepared for an in-depth look into the book of Ruth. One day, she will be. But today, to meet her at her point of need, she needs to know how to effectively parent, manage finances, and gain control emotionally. Overwhelmed is being heralded across the country as a recommended teaching resource for single parent ministries that brings people Christ is a relevant, understandable way.

Hold meetings on a convenient night. Do not hold your single parent meeting on Sunday morning during Sunday School. Single Moms who are unchurched will not attend. They fear church. We have seen many single moms transition into church after weeks or months of attending our single moms program on Friday nights.

Respect their time. Do not have a meeting that drones on and on. Single moms are busy. They cannot afford the time of meeting for 2.5 hours when they only expected to be in the meeting 1.5 hours.

Hey Jennifer! I had a great time at the Christmas party tonight. I was on my way out to round up my boys, and noticed that you were busy talking to someone...but just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate you for all that you have done and are doing in the lives of single mothers/women, including myself. Tonight, I ALMOST left when my son, Seth's, number came up on the screen (as he needed assistance)...I immediately knew what it was about. Each time I have brought Seth (my one and 1/2 year old) to the childcare area, I have been called to get him due to him BITING another child!! After the first couple of times, I started to ask around....asked his teachers, caregivers, brothers....anyone he comes into contact with....if biting has been a problem for them. All have said no..so tonight when they told me that he couldn't stay n there, I basically became discouraged.....I thought to myself "Man, of all nights, why did Seth pick the ONE night that I'm trying to do something special for ME?!"....well, to make a long story short, I attempted to leave, but NO ONE would let me!!! Several women, none of which I had met prior to tonight, came up to me offering to watch Seth so that I could go back in...eventually I gave in....I looked over as I was listening to you, and I noticed Seth along the wall laying peacefully on the shoulder of the nice woman who volunteered to keep him company...saying all of this to say...THANK YOU!!! I have never felt so welcomed, loved, special, and comfortable as I do at Healing Place....I appreciate you for sharing your story and I am excited about spending the upcoming year becoming more and more intimate with God and connecting with many more people like you!!! I appreciate you more than words can say! And I thank God for you, HP, and this ministry!!!

Who Will Love Me?

There is a beautiful song out by JJ Heller(pictured above) called "Love Me" (http://bit.ly/yxfoU). In a recent conversation with my 15-year-old, he told me that he really loved this song. As I began to listen to the lyrics, tears ran down my face. How many times have I given CONDITIONAL love to my children? I love when they make good grades. I love when they score in a basketball game. I love when they clean their room. I was immediately convicted. My prayer is always, ALWAYS, that my children would know that my love is UNCONDITIONAL. That I love who they are, that I love them --- their precious faces.

I wonder how many are reading who wonder if anyone will love you, just for you---without strings attached, without conditions, without demands. I wonder how many are silently slipping away, drowning in your sorrow or shame or depression from a past hurt. My prayer is that you would know, truly know what your Heavenly Father says to you:

"I have called YOU back from the ends of the earth....For I have chosen YOU and will not throw YOU away. Don't be afraid, for I am with YOU. Don't be discouraged for I am YOUR God. I will strengthen YOU and uphold You with my mighty right hand." Isaiah 41:9-10

The Last 30 Days....

In the last 30 days, my husband's grandfather died. My husband was rear-ended. We experienced the death of two dear elders in our church. My husband's father was diagnosed with throat cancer. And............now 30 days later, my husband's father died with throat cancer. That is a whirlwhind of tragedy for just one month, wouldn't you say?

In the midst of all that tragedy and heartache, I can tell you that my God is good. I can tell you that His word is true. He is faithful. I know that so often we blame God for losses in our lives or tragedies, then proclaim He has no existence when we are doing well or thriving. We ignore him during the good times and plead with him during the bad times.

My hope is that with every up & down in life, we are evermore conscious of His mighty hand at work in our lives, whether we understand the "why's" and "how's" or not!

"All things work for the good of those who love the Lord and are called according to his purpose." Roman 8:28

On Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, HPC Single Moms will throw its annual Christmas Extravaganza for area single moms. We expect 200 single moms and their children to be part of this event. These moms are from all over our city, representing several churches, and come from all different backgrounds. We have teen moms and moms in their 50s. We have unwed, divorced, and widowed mothers. Many moms work two jobs and/or go to school full-time. We teach them parenting, finances, emotional stability, and spiritual growth. We have experienced 700% growth in the last 3 years and are seeking donations to help fund the party, gifts, etc.

Single Moms Across the Country

I just finished up a week-long book tour covering East Texas. We had great fun stopping at different venues and sharing all the things God laid on my heart, meeting new people, and conducting book signings. Perhaps, this is one of the more interesting places I stopped by---many of the girls were in full costume for their fall celebration. It was a first for me.

I came back from my journey both exhausted from the trip and excited. Each time I speak on all the things single moms need, all the statistics that would potentially set them up for failure, all the ways we can get involved----I get fired up all over again. This trip has been especially exciting, because every place I visited, there seemed to be a hunger for learning how to open and grow single mom's ministries. I wonder if you've gotten involved yet.

My Purpose

At this point in my life, I have spoken before many people. The Lord gave me a sensitivity for hurting people for which I am thankful, but I always come back to the single mom.

I have now counseled more hundreds of single moms personally. I've touched them, held their hands, cried with them. It never gets any easier. I find tears streaming down my face more often than not. I think about the single mom--- whoever she is. I think of how she is managing. I'm praying for her, as I do my daily chores or running errands. I pray for her children. I think of what the world says her future will become and her kids' futures will be, based on statistics. Yet, I know my God is far bigger than that. He radically changes lives.

As I've just finished teaching two amazing classes to single moms and seen another 8% growth in our ministry in the last 30 days, I still question whether or not I'm doing enough, whether or not a mom will be forever changed, because I didn't turn the other way. I still get angry at the injustice and the stigma she faces. I find myself beating my chest and screaming, "What about the single mom?! What about the single mom?! Don't forget her!"

I am sure some get sick of me constantly bringing "her" up, but I am certain that my Heavenly Father lays her on my heart over and over, so that I do not quit. My prayer is often that God would greatly expand my capacity--not for fame or fortune, but simply for the ability to touch another one, to reach out to another one, in a different way, in a different state, a different country, and let her know that she is not alone.

Oddly enough, there is great fear AND great comfort in knowing exactly what God's purpose is for my life. What's yours?

Sweet Moments

I am the mother of a 3 year old and an active runner. Oftentimes, I take her in the stroller while I run. Today was a particularly hot day and I found myself about a mile in purely exhausted. I exclaimed aloud how tired I was. My sweet three-year-old tells me to hurry and "Come ear!" I go to the front of her stroller where she places her hand on my forehead and says, "Dear Jesus, please give my momma some energy. Amen." What else could I do? I ran all the way home!
